"Drupal Sucks"

Submitted by chuck1 on Tue, 2011-10-04 20:08

Before you say that, consider this:

Drupal Makes Me Happy: Yo, if it makes you genuinely happy, it's probably pretty good.Drupal Makes Me Happy: Yo, if it makes you genuinely happy, it's probably pretty good.

OK, so I'm back on it...

Submitted by chuck1 on Thu, 2011-06-23 18:37

So I'm re-doing the site as you can see. The video on the front page will change. Just trying to get it working HTML5-style now. There are so many devices, operating systems and browsers out there now. It's complex to serve things up correctly to all of them.

Speaking of which, if you notice anything odd in the display or if the front page video doesn't display/play correctly in your browser or device, let me know. I'm especially interested to hear how things are working in the Droid world.

The Most Basic Thing About Securing Drupal (or any CMS)

Submitted by chuck1 on Thu, 2010-08-12 13:03

I got that message today, Drupal admins know the one:

Critical security update required! Please check available updates to ensure the security of your server.

(or something like that...)

It's all in red and stuff, looks really intimidating, like, "Oh my God, what if the hackers have discovered this vulnerability before the Drupal development community did!"

New York State Senate on Drupal

Submitted by chuck1 on Mon, 2010-02-15 09:38

The New York State Senate website is now powered by Drupal. It's a feature-rich, dynamic, interactive, multimedia Web 2.0 site. The performance is smooth and quick, and I am sure that there is plenty of secure access control involved. I'm glad to see that my tax dollars are being deployed wisely.

How to Develop a Real Website in 2009 (and how not to)

Submitted by chuck1 on Sun, 2009-10-11 14:39

In 2001 I had a great business idea that, like so many of my great business ideas, withered on the vine even after I had spent a lot of hours working on it. It was a case of not committing fully, really. My life at the time was full of other events and obligations.

Drupal's Category Module Won't Update? Try this.

Submitted by chuck1 on Sat, 2009-09-19 01:15

Just wanted to share this experience to save headaches for any Drupal admins finding it difficult to update the Category module

If you have been getting strange behavior from Category, you are not alone. It's extremely powerful and robust and, as such, prone to easy breaking. It's one of those paradoxes of computer programming -- the more the program can do, the more intricate the code, the more buggy.

Anyway, if a search brought you here because you're banging your head against the wall trying to update this module, try this:

Moving a Drupal site to a new domain or subdomain

Submitted by chuck1 on Wed, 2009-09-02 00:43

(Note: If you are trying to move a Drupal site to a new host, see the comment.)

As I've written before, one of the great things about Drupal is that it simplifies the management of many domains from one codebase. Surprisingly, Drupal also makes it incredibly easy to move entire websites from one domain (www.example.com) to another (www.anotherexample.com) or from a subdomain (subdomain.example.com) to a main domain (www.example.com). Confused? If you are, you might want to consider getting out of the webmastering business.

What I'm talking about is this: If I wanted to move this entire site from chucklinart.com to funnytechguru.com, I could do it in less than five minutes. Here is how:

I currently have two e-books published and available from Amazon.com. Never mind the cheesy do-it-yourself cover art -- you need to read these.
