I Hate Crackers
All my websites were taken down momentarily by a cracker this morning (11-11-2009). Probably had something to do with the DoS attack the other day. They used that to find and open holes, I guess.
I'm not giving any details about what happened because I want to catch the SOB next time. All I can say is that it's pretty pathetic to waste everyone's time like that. You waste your time taking down the sites because of course I have them backed up and will bring them back up. You waste my time (more of yours than mine). You accomplish nothing, and you put yourself in severe legal jeopardy. What's the point?
Some people are just jerks. They lack talent or ability to do anything productive so they try to destroy those of us who are productive. Whatever. Sucks being them.
Why they're called "script kiddies"
They use scripts that they rip from warez sites to vandalize other people's stuff. I can sort of see the appeal for a 13 year old. I used to like to break stuff when I was that age, too.
For a grown adult to do it is just pathetic. I guess if there is some chance of major monetary gain it might make a little sense, but to just do it for the sake of doing it is retarded (no offense to the developmentally disabled, most of whom would see the futility of these childish acts).
I have this funny feeling...
... that they are going to try again tonight or tomorrow morning. I'm ready for it. My host is great.
